The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation wants to make sure you are prepared, educated and legal before you take to the trail on your off-highway vehicle (OHV). Rentals
There are a few different places in Island Park and West Yellowstone that you can rent or buy ATVs, UTVs, Side X Sides, gear, and clothing from. Some even have a service and parts department. They’re all very friendly and helpful, and can provide advice and trail maps. Don’t be shy with your questions. There’s not much they don’t know! Each vendor has their own makes and models for rent, so shop around until you find the perfect fit for your group. Oftentimes they book up fast, so plan ahead and get your reservations early! Here are a few options.
Trail Maps
You can pick up trail maps and many of the local business in Island Park, or use one of these. Play around with them before you come so you can see which one you like best before you hit the trails! Cell phone signal is not great in many spots in Island Park, so an offline map is a wise choice.
This Trails.Idaho.gov application shows motorized and non-motorized trail opportunities across the State of Idaho. Zoom in and click on an individual route to get more information about the route.
Click the magnifying glass and select State: Idaho, and select Forest: Caribou-Targhee National Forest.
The Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) displays National Forest System (NFS) routes (roads and trails) or areas designated as open to motorized travel. The MVUM also displays allowed uses by vehicle class (ex. highway-legal vehicles, vehicles 50 inches in width or less and motorcycles), seasonal allowances, distance allowances, and provides information on other travel rules and regulations.
